Unforgettable Moments Con't...

I Believe In Fairytales

This pick really reminds me what this tournament is all about.  The magic that can happen at any given time.  In 2006, the George Mason Patriots entered the tournament as 11th seed.  In the first round, they defeated the 6th seeded Michigan State Spartans.

Their second round matchup was against the defending champions North Carolina Tar Heels (easily the best college program ever).  The Patriots were definitely the unbelievable underdogs.  After falling into a 16-2 hole early in the game, the team bounced back to shock the world and win the game 65-60.

Their next game was against a equally matched mid-major team, Wichita State Shockers.  George Mason jumped out to a big early lead that the Shockers were unable to overcome.  The Patriots won, 63-55.

Their Elite Eight matchup found themselves facing the Connecticut Huskies, the team that everyone thought would win it all.  The Patriots defeated the top-seeded Huskies, 86-84 in overtime, in what is called one of the memorable games in tournament history.

The Patriots were the first CAA team to reach the Final Four.  Their Cinderella story ended in Indianapolis, when the eventual National Champion Florida Gators defeated them 73-58 on April 1.  Despite their loss, many analysts, and myself consider their performance in that tourney to be the best run by a mid-major in tournament history.  Their impact was so profound that everyone now asks, "Who will be this years' George Mason?"
